A major chipmaking plant might be coming to a city near you. Local newspapers across the country are picking up on leads like zoning changes, nearby infrastructure development and information from unidentified sources to claim that Samsung is planning to build a potential $17 billion facility in their backyard. The reality is that the site selection is likely down to four locations - two in Arizona, one in Texas and one in New York. All locations have their perks. They all seem to have decent cost of living, lots of flat land and friendly local economic incentives. Samsung does have a large construction/EPC division in house so it will be interesting to see how they build the facility once they pick the site.
