FNG

FNG is an acronym for F**cking New Guy. Originally used by the US military, the term has now been used in more than one job trailer. It can be a type of nickname or a derogative term. Often the term is used to sarcastically give young engineers a hard time. Once bestowed upon an engineer the actual meaning and sentiment behind it will bifurcate into a true nickname and term of endearment or to a more negative name and usage. If the engineer embraces their role and performs well, they will earn additional nicknames and terms of endearment. They could be the FNG that motivated and high performing future engineers are measured against. If an engineer fights the title and/or performs poorly, it becomes a derogatory name and they will likely struggle to overcome the label. In some situations, they will be the low performing benchmark that less desirable FNG's will be compared against.
