Yesterday, a blog discussed the construction industry preparedness for Coronavirus. This post will discuss individual preparedness, from a trailer centered focus. As individuals, we are ready and able to work. Outside of work, things are a bit more tricky. As a whole, we aren't the kind of people who lack confidence, get worried about much and definitely don't like to follow the crowd. With masses of people buying up all kinds of non-essential items, myself and other builders have bought a bit extra, as well. Not necessarily because we are worried about an apocalypse level event but because we don't want to be short on food if the average over reactor buys too much for their own good, at our expense. We all but hated ourselves for being a contributor to the current levels of over-buying. Interestingly, it's not uncommon for construction pros to be as shocked about the lack of canned goods, water and TP as they are about the relative abundance of alcoholic beverages. One superintendent said that if he ends up going on a diet of sorts, he's going to supplement with alcohol.
On a serious note, we can't overreact but we need to react enough to be responsible. We should consider changing or improving our personal hygiene habits and reducing our interaction with people, especially, at large and crowded events.
