Are contractors and construction pros ready for Coronavirus? Yes, there are the specific health related preparations like avoiding or stopping travel, working from home, staying home if sick, etc. but is our industry ready to support the built environment during the weeks and months to come? Are we making sure we have the crews and equipment needed to maintain existing and build new hospital and medical care facilities, as well as, our infrastructure like power, communication, water and roads? Without a functioning built environment, preventing and treating all people potentially sickened with the virus will be difficult, to impossible if thousands of people require treatment over a short period of time. A better built environment can help prevent virus spread and help provide for better care if large numbers of people are infected.
As an industry, we are confident in our ability to build great things. We are good at figuring things out but are we ready to build and maintain facilities and infrastructure critical to the diagnosis and treatment of this and potential future illnesses?
