Are We Really Doing Our Part?

With COVID-19 numbers increasing, are we really doing our part to help get our nation safely past it? In most areas, (all) construction work has been labeled as essential services. Is all construction work essential services as it relates to the virus? The short answer is no. It might not even be right, especially, in the main office or at congested jobsites. There are certain types of work like medical facility, power and water infrastructure construction and maintenance projects that should move forward in almost all situations. Should entertainment or food related construction and maintenance work be classified as essential services? The short answer is no. There are obviously some grey areas but to help our overall economy and country get back to normal, construction pros should evaluate if work is truly essential to keep aid in remediating the COVID-19 pandemic. If not, we should consider slowing down and stay home like much of the rest of the country. Regardless of your opinion on the COVID-19 response, if we want to get back to normal, we need to get the number of infections to stabilize and the drop. If a few construction pros, who are not actually building essential projects, stayed home we might get back on track and back to business as usual sooner than later.
