Can you really afford lunch? Can you afford the cost, time or calories that most out of trailer or office lunches require? Unless you are a strong networker who builds your network and business over lunch, you probably aren’t spending your resources wisely if you don’t pack a lunch. It’s basic but packing your lunch will help you save precious resources every day. Obviously, if you have the chance to build a strategic relationship over lunch, go for it. That being said, most of us don’t eat lunch in a strategic manner if we leave the office to do it regularly.
Eating at your desk is actually a pretty strategic move we can make on a daily basis. We save money and keep more in our bank account and back pocket. Over time, the $5 or $10 or more a day that we save combines and compounds into a decent amount. Quick lunches at our desks also save time that can be used to put in more work or get done at work and get home at a more decent time. Finally, the calories of lunch out are usually a lot more than we get when packing a lunch. Of course, there are healthy options out there but I know I don’t make those choice if I am out for lunch. None of us ever really need the calories of a lunch out but once we hit our 30’s absolutely don’t need to add any calories to our diet for our slowing metabolism to process.
So, you probably can’t afford lunch. The good news is that, in general, if you pack your lunch, your personal bottom line and health will benefit as will your professional and personal productivity. You’ll get more done, have more to show for it and have time to build relationships while maintaining a higher standard of health that enables you to have the vitality and stamina to do better at everything else.
