The basic gist of a recent article is that asking open ended questions leads to good ideas and solutions. Construction leaders should learn to ask more questions. We should listen more and talk less. Open ended questions can create more engagement and deeper thinking individually and as a team. Asking a few open ended questions might help a leader gather more information and develop a more realistic understanding of the person, team and project. Digging deep can help people be more comfortable talking and sharing their perspectives on challenging issues and less accepted solutions. Asking enough questions then listening to and understanding responses can help leaders get to the less obvious or hidden problems and solutions.
