ENR shared an article (https://www.enr.com/articles/48294-fixed-price-issues-affect-engineers-too) that discussed how engineering consultants are not happy with the state of fixed price contracts. This was in response to, or in conjunction with, an articled that discussed the pain points contractors have with fixed price contracts. You can read the details of each article on the ENR website but since two thirds of the major project stakeholders don't like fixed price contracts, should we work for change? Many contractors, most notably some large publicly traded contractors, have already begun reshape their project portfolio to avoid large fixed price contracts. Should engineers do the same? Should clients get feedback and adjust their procurement and contract methods? Will clients be forced to adjust their procurement and contract methods if there isn't enough interested contractors and engineers to get competitive pricing?
