Engineers Vote to Impeach Superintendent

Gold spray painted gavel the engineers made to make the impeachment process more legit.

Upon witnessing the politics of the current impeachment process, engineers on one construction project have decided they've had enough of their superintendent and will vote to impeach him before Thanksgiving. They aren't even sure if they can actually impeach the superintendent (Guy Early) and know without a doubt that if impeachment is successful the Area Manager will not fire the superintendent they see as grumpy, old and too opinionated. Undaunted by the eventual reality of the impeachment process, they feel it is their duty to deliver a strong and symbolic rebuke of him via impeachment.

According to Skippy McSchmartzel, the engineers have rallied around several impeachable offenses.

  • Mr. Early references past projects and experiences when making decisions. The logic and eventual decisions conflict with the theory they learned in college. When confronted with textbooks, he keeps on working and somehow keeps the job profitable which must surely be luck.

  • Mr. Early has given the engineers the option for daily meetings at 6am before work starts or at 4 pm when the crews are done. This is inconvenient for the engineers as they would have to wake up early or miss Happy Hour to attend. They proposed catered lunch meetings. Mr. Early refused.

  • Mr. Early uses sarcasm throughout the day. The engineers requested that he stop or provide a safe space in The Trailer where they can decompress and unwind if they get overwhelmed or slightly offended.

  • Mr. Early’s first name Guy perpetuates the male dominated nature of construction. The engineers requested that Guy go by “G,” G_y (awkward to say) or The Superintendent Formerly Known as Guy. Mr. Early responded by calling everyone buddy, man, pals and, more commonly, Guy.

There are several more offenses that could be part of the impeachment process but to expedite the vote, the four issues noted above will be discussed and voted on. Another way the impeachment process will be expedited is that only engineer witnesses and engineer provided documentation will be presented at the trial. To hold the impeachment trial, Skippy requested a jobsite stand down. This request was summarily denied. While full impeachment is a longshot, Skippy and the other engineers believe it is their last and best option.

At the close of our interview, Skippy said, “Impeachment is a choice of last resort but if we can’t get Mr. Early to agree with us or leave on his own, we will impeach him.” From the other end of The Trailer, Guy yelled, “And get yourselves fired!!!”
