Exciting Concrete News

A long term concrete study based in Switzerland has entered its 50th year. Researchers are studying a structural beam cast in 1970. Specifically, they used epoxy adhesive to bond a steel plate to the bottom of the beam. Results of the study have been different than researchers anticipated. There has been next to no creep or relaxing of the adhesive bond.

In another concrete focused development, Knife River Corp. and Blue Planet have created a partnership with the intent to create synthetic limestone. Limestone can be a major component of concrete production which can dramatically impact the carbon footprint of the material. Reducing the carbon footprint of concrete could positively impact the sustainability of its use as a building material.
