Falls Aren't the Most Common Incident on a Jobsite but They Are the Most Common Cause of Death

Falls are the leading cause of death in construction. When they occur, they are often dangerous and severe incidents. To help prevent severe injuries and deaths due to falls, Oregon OSHA has developed a in depth video training library that covers a wide variety of fall related topics. These aren't the old construction safety videos from the 1970's either and the best part is that they are free. Topics covered include:

  • Importance of fall protection In construction

  • Planning for fall protection in construction

  • The basics of using fall protection

  • Guardrails on the jobsite

  • Positioning devices

  • Fall restraint vs fall arrest systems

  • The math behind calculating fall clearance

  • Trauma straps

  • Self-retracting lifelines

  • Fall protection anchors

  • Scaffolding

  • Fall protection while framing

  • Leading edge fall protection

  • Holes and openings

  • Fall protection and training advice for contractors

While not the most common incident category in construction, falls are often career and life threatening. For Federal OSHA fall protection resources, check out this link.
