FIU Bridge Collapse Report


The NTSB released it's preliminary report on findings related to the FIU Pedestrian Bridge collapse. Essentially, the design by the bridge engineer (FIGG Engineers) contained errors that led to the ultimate collapse. Recommendations included notes specific to FIGG but also to several local and federal bridge agencies.


While mentioned briefly in the preliminary report but not noted as the main cause of the collapse, I don't understand why crack remediation work that was adjusting key structure members was carried out over live traffic. A collapse would have been a big deal with the road closed but loss of life likely would have been avoided.


Regardless of the findings of the report, people lost their lives and nobody and no entity involved won after the report. Lives were lost and livelihoods were forever altered. Please read the ENR article and NTSB report below for complete information
