Improved Safety Numbers Are Good, Not Great

The CPWR, a construction safety and research group, shared a bulletin in December 2020 that found nonfatal injury rates have dropped since 2003. Even with this drop, construction injury rates are still higher than most other major industries. Struck by incidents were the leading cause of injuries in construction. Slips, trips and falls were responsible for the next highest number of injuries in construction. Large companies generally had better incident rates while smaller companies tended to have more injuries on the job. In line with this finding, specialty contractors had generally higher rates of injuries than general building and heavy civil contractors. Check out the bulletin for complete details.
