In a moment of amazing teamwork, a superintendent and engineer are working together to develop an app that notifies The Trailer staff when the restroom atmosphere is “hazardous.” After realizing that courtesy flushes and preemptive Lysol sprays only go so far to prevent lingering restroom stink, the superintendent and engineer decided to take matters into their own hands. Their solution is actually really simple. They modified an air monitor to detect restroom specific gasses and linked the alarm to a toy stop light mounted to the wall next to the restroom door. Based on gas concentration levels, a red, yellow or green light will be displayed. Green means go and that everything is all clear and that the air within the bathroom is at normal levels. Yellow means that the atmosphere is still a little stinky. Potential restroom users may enter at their own risk. A red light means that the atmosphere still wreaks of fecal matter. It is also likely that the toilet seat is still warm. Entrance should only occur if the potential restroom user has a strong stomach or is in desperate need of bathroom usage.
The warning system is still in testing and requires manual inspection and verification after restroom usage to verify the accuracy of the modified air monitor and stop light system. Two assistant project managers were responsible for the manual sniff tests but one was reassigned when his sensitive gag reflex only made things work.
Once fully operational, the project team plans to submit the system for an internal company innovation award. Given the pain point that the system provides a solution for, it has a good chance of being a first ballot winner.
