While usually great at generating power, building nuclear facilities isn't so great. The Vogtle nuclear facility is encountering more delays and cost overruns just as it nears the finish line for Unit 3 later this year and for Unit 4 in 2022. COVID didn't help things in 2020 but the struggles of building this facility and others is not a good sign for the future of nuclear power construction. Nuclear construction in the US is so challenging that this is the only nuclear power generating facility being built right now. Another one was being built but it was scrapped a few years back due to extensive cost overruns and delays. Not great indicators of future success for a source of power that has some long term environmental concerns but is very efficient when done right.
