One Man's Butt is Another Man's Brick

Researchers in Australia have recently published a paper detailing their work to repurpose one of the most commonly littered items in the world. It turns out that one man's cigarette butt can be part of another man's brick. The plastic in cigarette butts can be repurposed for use as plastic fibers in bricks. While incorporation of butts actually caused reduction in compressive strength of bricks it reduced the energy needed to make bricks. Another bit of energy reduction is realized when the fiber infused bricks are installed because the fiber in the bricks increases their insulation value when compared to standard, more conventional, bricks.
