Struggle to Succeed

Rocks roll better downhill.

Is struggle required to succeed? Yes. And no. Success, true success, usually requires at least a little suffering or strife to realize. Most anything worth achieving doesn't come easy. Maybe success doesn't necessarily require struggle but sacrifice might be a prerequisite. If you want to be a high achieving builder or executive, you will have to sacrifice in some other area. Maybe it's family time. It could be health and fitness or sleep. Something will be sacrificed to be a top dog. If family is priority one, work may be sacrificed. You'll still probably put in the standard 50 hours or so but excessive hours and travelling will be avoided. Say you want to train and compete in Ironman Triathlons the right way. You'll be spending hours a day training so time at work and/or time at home and with family and friends might suffer. Some people think they can literally do and have it all. That's most likely not going to be their reality and if they believe it is, they are lying to themselves. To succeed, we need to identify what our top priority is and what we are willing to sacrifice in order to succeed and achieve that priority. Struggle can, and will likely, occur when sacrificing to make our goals. It might be best viewed as an indicator that you are pushing yourself to your limits and pursuing a worthy goal.
