US Army Corps of Engineers Building Temporary Hospitals All Over

Old school temporary hospital.

The USACE is building hundreds of temporary hospitals in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Hospitals have already sprung up in New York. A temporary hospital with a capacity of 1,000 beds is being constructed in the Boston Convention and Exposition Center by Suffolk Construction. This and most other hospitals are built to handle regular hospital patients so that the local hospitals can focus on COVID-19 patient treatment. Walsh Construction's effort to build a temporary hospital in Chicago's McCormick Convention Center was recently profiled in ENR. The temporary hospital will have a 3,000 bed capacity and is unique in that it will actually treat COVID-19 patients with various levels of treatment need. Modular construction is being used whenever possible to expedite the schedule and to provide uniform construction quality. As understanding of the virus and medical care requirements improves, cities are able to prepare better and several are building temporary hospitals like Boston and Chicago. Construction pros are responding and supplying there specialty trade experience, materials or hospital construction expertise to build a better world more capable of providing the best medical care possible during the COVID-19 crisis.
