Windshield time. Every builder has gotten a substantial amount at some point in their career. Whether it's driving from one side of the city to the other, crossing through a county or two or making the trek to and from an out of town jobsite, we've all gotten our fair share or more of time on the road. If you're lucky, your time will be during a nice sunset or low traffic time but most likely it was late at night, early in the morning and through the busiest parts of town during rush hour. No matter the type of windshield time you may have, it's character and skill building time. We've become almost professional drivers and self proclaimed experts at doing at least another task or two while driving. Patience is something else that is strengthened and tested while accruing windshield time when route A to Z are all backed up. Navigation is another skill that is developed with windshield time. All the map and route apps are helpful now but they don't forecast. Only a true road warrior can look at the current travel time map and then predict and navigate to the best route to be on an hour later when they actually reach the other side of town.
Windshield time can even be a little fun. If you are the first one to the trailer or the last one to leave, you can throw a little dust and rock around if the right material is available.
