Work Truck

You better ooze self confidence or not care about your pride to drive this as a work truck.

In theory a work truck is a vehicle that is used by the driver during work duties. They can also be a bit of a status symbol or rank signifier. It's not uncommon for people or companies to be sized up at pre-bids or bid submissions based on the truck they show up in. In trailers, the bigger, the longer, the newer, non-base model truck is a prized possession or commodity. No one else in your area has a 4x4? Well, you clearly are the winner among work truck drivers. You win again if your truck is lifted a bit or has an interior upgrade or two. Is regular, extended or crew cab best? Obviously crew cab is. Work type and need doesn't matter because we know more is just better. Did you get the new truck this year? You win again. Work trucks for field staff are a lot like toys, clothes, bikes and electronics for kids. You gotta have the newest, biggest and best stuff if you care about your status and have an ounce of pride. They can also be a sort of friendly competition and source of additional ribbing between drivers and projects.

So what's the point of this post? Not much really except that in spite of how much work trucks impact the pride of a driver, they don't often have nearly the impact (positive or negative) on the actual work and end product delivered to the client. No matter the truck you have, you can embrace it, make it your own and turn it into your own little happy place.
